An Idyllic Escape in West Cork

As the nights have grown longer, and the days much shorter, I have found myself reflecting back on the wonderful Summer that we experienced in 2018.

It was a Summer of balmy evenings, BBQ’s and weekends spent at the beach. We had weeks on end of long hot Summer days and during that time, there really was nowhere more beautiful than Ireland and our stunning coastline.

Every weekend, I packed up the car and headed for the beach and truly appreciated every single moment of the sunshine.

With the weather so good, I decided to take full advantage of our beautiful Country and had a few mini staycations during the Summer months.

One of the places I went to was West Cork.

The reason I chose there was for a number of reasons – the accessibility was the first – and then the stunning beaches and finally the great amount of places to visit from the hub that I chose, which was the Celtic Ross Hotel in Rosscarbery.

The Celtic Ross is a stunning family owned hotel that is just 90 minutes drive from Cork City. It has magnificent views over the water and is set in a great location with easy accessibility to Clonakilty, Skibbereen and Baltimore.

The bedrooms are all beautifully decorated and I would recommend to ask for a room with a view if you are booking.

The bedrooms have recently been upgraded and are really spacious and the beds are really comfortable – which is one of the most important things for me when staying in a hotel.

There was also a really lovely seating area with the spectacular view which was a really lovely place to relax and read in the room whilst indulging in endless cups of tea.

The food at the hotel is really excellent. We had dinner in the hotel on both nights that we stayed there and honestly, the food and service was truly flawless. I would highly recommend the hotel for dinner or it is a great location for Sunday lunch if you were planning a nice Sunday drive.

The great thing too about the hotel location is that you have some of the most beautiful places in West Cork within very easy access. On one of the days, we took a fabulous drive to Baltimore and enjoyed a stunning lunch over looking the Ocean.

Rates at the Celtic Ross are incredibly competitive and there are special offers during certain times of the year from €70 – you can view offers here.

And honestly, locations that are on the water can be even more beautiful during the Winter times. As a person, I naturally gravitate to the water all year round and hope to get back there soon for a staycation.
