Finally, after a stressful period of relentless study and coffee fuelled all nighters, our UCC Year 2 Law exams finished. Obviously, we have no idea how we all did, but regardless, yesterday was about celebrating survival and also toasting to the Summer ahead.
As soon as the exam finished, some of the girls and I decided to head down to the River Lee for some brunch. The hotel is so close to the UCC campus and we really wanted somewhere that we could sit outside after spending 3 hours writing about Criminal Law. Interestingly, I, in a former life was the Human Resource Manager at that hotel – when it was Jurys Hotel, so I have very fond memories of racing across to the Wine Vault on Friday evenings with my former colleagues. We obviously did a bit of work in our time there too.
So, with the sun shining and the elation of the finality of UCC for the Summer, we chose The Weir Rooms, which is the gorgeous terrace that is on the river side of the hotel itself. There is a great menu selection which you can see here, but it is such a lovely space aesthetically and a great place to watch the world go by.
On arrival, the manager there, Pierce surprised us with a lovely “Well Done” plate – well done on survival, just to be clear. We might need to go back for a “Better Luck Next Time” next month – but hopefully not!
I ordered the Black Pudding Hash Brown with Spiced Ham Hock and Poached Eggs and I can really honestly say – it was just delicious! The flavours were delicious and the Eggs were cooked to perfection! I will definitely be returning over the weekends this Summer for a Boozy Brunch on the Weir for this dish alone!
The food, service and ambience as a whole is truly wonderful at the Weir Rooms and I would definitely recommend it for a bite of lunch or even just drinks or coffee’s alfresco.
It really was the perfect place to finish my week off work for my exams! And now, it is on to finalising the plans for The Cork Oyster Festival 2017 and The Cork Chocolate Festival 2017! We have such a super line up of events and I’ll be able to release all details very soon!!!!
