Skincare really and truly begins from within and what you put into your body and how you treat your body, will really show in your skin, hair and nails. I, personally will always see a dramatic difference in my skin if I have have overindulged in rich food and wine and had one too many late nights. My face in particular will be very puffy – especially around the eye area and my skin will look tired due to dehydration.
I am very strict with certain daily rituals, like have my regular vitamins each morning and also drinking 2-3 litres of water per day. I am a self-confessed diet coke addict but I do try and keep that for a treat and stick with water in the car and at my desk in work. If I don’t drink sufficient water, I will always see the difference in my skin so hydration is key.
With regards to skincare, I would have a very good regime and I have certainly improved my skincare and a) I have gotten older and b) we have become more educated with regard to our skin care needs.
It is important to note that all of our needs are different and skincare is not a one size fits all. I have learned to listen to my skin more as it changes regularly for many reasons. My skin changes hormonally, with the seasons, if I am going through an exceptionally busy period in my life and so on. Therefore, as it changes, I make minor tweaks and adjustments to get the maximum benefit. For example, if my skin is more dehydrated, I will use a skin oil going to bed during that week, or if it is dull, I will use a scrub to resurface my skin.
Recently, I was sent some products from Janssen Cosmetics to try. I have given myself 4 weeks of using the product to give an accurate opinion of the products.
The first of the products that I used was the Brightening Face Cleanser. If you know me, you will know that I have an obsession with cleansing my face and doing so really well. I love having a squeaky clean feeling to my face especially at the end of the day. In the morning, I always cleanse my face in the shower with a foaming wash and in the evening, I will use a cream cleanser. I will always double cleanse in the evening though as I do tend to wear a lot of make up so I like to get the initial make up off with a mitt (I get them from Penneys – here) . When using a mitt though – throw it in the washing machine with your washing after every single use. These mitts harbour bacteria and you really need to ensure that you have a fresh one for each use. I think that double cleansing is vital in the evening even if you don’t wear make up though as you have been in external pollutants all day and also your hands will have been touching your face intermittently throughout the day will be carrying dirt also.
This cleanser, as a brightening cleanser really appealed to me – who doesn’t want brighter skin? Bright plump skin is always a sign of youthfulness, so I was looking forward to giving it a go. The cleansing lotion is applied to damp skin using circular motions and massaged into the skin before being removed with either cotton wool or a facecloth. Again, I love using a facecloth as I find that the grainy texture of a facecloth acts as an exfoliant for the skin giving that fresh squeaky feeling that I love. This particular cleanser has white mulberry tea extract which has a substance that delays melanin which does result in brighter looking skin. The cleanser removes all dirt and impurities but does not strip the skin of it’s moisture when cleansing it. I sometimes find that the skin can feel dry and tight after certain cleansers but this one, left the skin feeling clean, fresh and moisturised.
I then got the Day Moisturiser and the Night Cream.
Starting with the day cream, this has a really light consistency but is extremely moisturising. It is an ideal moisturiser to put on before your foundation and you don’t have to sit around waiting for it to absorb to the skin. My skin in general can be quite dry so I find it difficult to find the balance – especially with day creams of having a moisturiser that isn’t too thick and creamy as it can affect how the foundation goes on after and lead to shiny spots in the t-zone during the day but this one was just right. The moisturiser has the all important hyaluronic acid which penetrates deeply, retains moisture and therefore promotes that all important plumping – for a youthful glow.
With regards to the night cream, this was an excellent cream that acted quite like an overnight moisture mask on the skin. The night cream has avocado oil which has high concentrations of Vitamin A, B, C & D. I found that on waking, my skin would feel fresh and hydrated from the over night moisture. Personally, on days that I am not wearing make up, I used the night cream during the day if my skin was dehydrated. Obviously, I would never use it with foundation as the foundation would struggle to absorb with the high levels of moisture. I found both the day and the night cream to be excellent and definitely noticed my skin to be brighter, more supple and more hydrated.
I was also sent the Moisture Boost Fluid which come in 7 days glass vials. These are really excellent for a boost to very dehydrated skin. I used 2 of these and really loved the feeling on my skin after use – quite like the skin oil that I mentioned at the beginning but I will be saving these for using specifically on a longer flight. Whenever I go on a long flight, I always do some kind of moisture mask on my face and eyes and the cabin air can be intensely drying – plus, something has to try and counteract the bubbles that are consumed at 30,000 feet.
So, all in all, I would definitely recommend Janssen Cosmeceuticals for the face. It is a company that is around a long time and they have extensive research and knowledge in the skin care area. If you’d like to see their product range, you can click here.
